About Sitemap Generator

1. INTRODUCTION

The Sitemap Generator by ProviaTools is an online technical SEO tool designed to help website owners, developers, and search engine optimization specialists create valid XML sitemaps. An XML sitemap acts as a roadmap of your website, guiding search engines like Google and Bing to all your important pages so they can crawl and index them efficiently.

By either pasting a list of URLs directly or scanning a domain to collect public links, this tool automatically formats your web addresses into a standard XML sitemap protocol. Webmasters use it to ensure newly published pages are quickly discovered, manage page crawl priorities, and submit direct site maps to search webmaster tools. The tool outputs formatted XML code that can be saved directly as a sitemap.xml file.

2. HOW TO USE SITEMAP GENERATOR

Creating a structured XML sitemap with this generator takes only a few steps:

  1. Select Your Input Method: Choose either Paste URLs to manually enter custom links, or click From website domain to scan an existing site domain.

  2. Provide Your URLs or Domain:

    • If using Paste URLs, enter your full absolute web addresses (one per line) in the text box.

    • If using From website domain, enter your domain address (e.g., [https://example.com](https://example.com)) and click Scan website to discover up to 200 public URLs automatically.

  3. Configure Optional Parameters: Select a default Change frequency (such as weekly or monthly) and set a Priority value (ranging from 0.0 to 1.0) for the listed pages.

  4. Export Your Sitemap: Review the formatted code block in the "XML SITEMAP" section. Click Copy XML to copy the raw code, or click Download XML to save the generated sitemap.xml file directly to your device.

3. HOW IT WORKS

The tool functions by processing a list of absolute web URLs and wrapping each address into standardized XML sitemap markup compliant with the official Sitemaps.org protocol.

When you submit URLs or scan a domain, the tool parses each web address, inserts a <url> block, and appends nested child tags for each entry:

  • <loc>: Contains the absolute URL of the web page.

  • <lastmod>: Automatically appends the current modification date in ISO format (YYYY-MM-DD).

  • <changefreq>: Indicates how frequently the page content is expected to update.

  • <priority>: Highlights the relative importance of each URL on your domain.

Why XML Sitemaps Matter

Search engine crawlers rely on XML sitemaps to discover pages that might not be easily accessible through standard internal links. Submitting a sitemap helps search bots locate new blog posts, landing pages, and site updates much faster, improving overall site indexation and crawl efficiency.

Important Considerations

The domain scanning feature performs a shallow scan to look up public pages and existing sitemaps, collecting up to 200 URLs. For larger websites, additional URLs can be added manually into the text box line by line.

4. EXAMPLE

Input Example

  • Sitemap Source: Paste URLs

  • URLs in sitemap:

    https://example.com/
    https://example.com/about/
    https://example.com/blog/

  • Change frequency: weekly

  • Priority: 0.8

Process

The generator processes each submitted URL line, applies the current date tag, wraps the items with XML header tags (<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>), and formats the entries inside a <urlset> container.

Generated Output

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9">
  <url>
    <loc>https://example.com/</loc>
    <lastmod>2026-08-14</lastmod>
    <changefreq>weekly</changefreq>
    <priority>0.8</priority>
  </url>
  <url>
    <loc>https://example.com/about/</loc>
    <lastmod>2026-08-14</lastmod>
    <changefreq>weekly</changefreq>
    <priority>0.8</priority>
  </url>
  <url>
    <loc>https://example.com/blog/</loc>
    <lastmod>2026-08-14</lastmod>
    <changefreq>weekly</changefreq>
    <priority>0.8</priority>
  </url>
</urlset>
